This project comprised refurbishment and additions works to the heritage listed Brisbane Arcade to bring the services of the building up to a standard that would last well into the 21st century. Whilst protecting and enhancing the physical appearance of the arcade, Hutchinson Builders also ensured that the arcade’s old-world charm was maintained. 

Project works involved a basement refurbishment, major services upgrade, installation of a new lift, and gallery works to the Adelaide Street end. Hutchies worked closely with the architect to ensure all works were undertaken in a safe and precise manner that retained all heritage characteristics without interrupting the continuity of the program. The project was awarded the 1997 AIB Professional Excellence in Building Queensland Refurbishment over $5M Award.

In 2018 we were engaged to undertake the $1.3M refurbishment of the heritage façades at the Queen Street Mall and Adelaide Street entrances of the arcade. We worked with the architect and the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to complete a colour study to ensure faithful reproduction of the heritage palette. Roofing to the existing awnings was replaced along with the associated gutters, flashings and gutter guards.
