Hutchies was engaged to build Gympie's state-of-the-art new medical imaging facility, incorporating Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computer Tomography (CT), Nuclear Imaging, Breast Imaging, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Bone Mineral Densitometry, Dental Imaging and X-Ray. The building comprises a two storey undercroft parking area, architectural waiting area, various staff amenities, medical suites and future tenancy space. Prior to commencement of construction works, Hutchies completed all rock excavation required for the undercroft car park.
A unique challenge of delivering this project was the transportation of the $3M 8-tonne MRI machine from Germany to Australia. The movement of this extremely sensitive state-of-the-art piece of equipment had to be coordinated precisely to minimise transition time in order to mitigate the risks of damage associated with its transportation.
Specialised equipment was utilised to manoeuvre the machine into the building, with the travel path through the completed building being precisely mapped out on CAD to ensure it was moved without error or delay. Any mistakes in this planning stage could have resulted in delays, potentially allowing the magnet to overheat causing damage and expensive repair costs. The MRI machine also had to be located to pinpoint accuracy (within 1mm) to line up with structural supports and completed services.
Hutchies' close collaboration with specialised imaging consultants and subcontractors, along with their consortium of other on-site specialists, ensured the project was delivered well before the predetermined completion date. The quality of build was of an exceptionally high standard and resulted in a satisfied Client, with all stakeholder objectives being met.
