The Gladstone Ports Corporation awarded Hutchinson Builders the East Shores Stage 1A project, which comprised the construction of the first part of Gladstone Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct's major foreshore development. It included the realignment of Flinders Parade, cantilevered boardwalk, 400m of armour rock sea wall, wet dock for the HMAS Gladstone, public utility plant, family water play park, public facilities building, car parking and a new walkway up Auckland Hill.

The implementation of multiple comprehensive environmental approaches was required in order to manage a number of possible environmental risks. These included marine mammal and fauna management, geological concerns with Auckland Hill, potential acid sulphate soils, erosion and sediment control (both land and marine), air quality management, and noise and vibration management. Hutchinson Builders worked closely with consultants to ensure that any environmental factors were overcome in a safe and eco-friendly manner.

This project was successfully delivered on time and within budget, maintaining a close relationship with the Client and all involved stakeholders.

In 2019 Hutchies was awarded Stage 1B of the East Shores Precinct. The latest stage will add a mix of new amenities, plaza for the cruise ship terminal, multi-purpose function centre, waterfront café, open air cinema, and picnic shelters.
