Announced on Queensland Day, the Queensland Greats Awards recognise and honour extraordinary individuals and institutions who have made a meaningful contribution to, or whose achievements have significantly impacted the history and development of Queensland.

The Hutchinson family has played a pivotal role in Queensland’s built history.

Scott is the fourth generation Hutchinson to preside over the family owned builder, which has grown from humble Brisbane beginnings in 1912 to what is now Australia’s largest privately owned building company.

Joining Hutchies in 1986, Scott has seen the company’s turnover soar from $6 million to now over $3 billion.

This growth has not only bolstered Queensland's economy but also fostered a robust construction industry, driving employment, nurturing local talent and supporting communities throughout the state.

Beyond business, Scott is a notable philanthropist, supporting numerous not for profit organisations and championing initiatives like AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism and the urban honey bee movement.

His passion for the arts led to the creation of iconic music venues, notably The Triffid and The Fortitude Music Hall, and the purchase and preservation of other Fortitude Valley music venues – a personal commitment to protecting Brisbane’s live music scene.

Scott’s drive for social progress is further highlighted through Hutchies’ genuine achievements in diversity and cultural initiatives such as our Statim Yaga Indigenous training, employment and procurement program which was recognised with a 2020 Queensland Government Reconciliation Business Award.
