The Gulf project won Health Facilities over $20 million, and Prefabricated and Modular Commercial Project – recognition for both the healthcare outcome and the way we built it.

Our Townsville team accepted both awards on behalf of the Toowoomba team, who delivered the project.

Led by our Toowoomba team under Sean Lees, the hospital was built using a prefabricated modular approach. Modules were manufactured in Toowoomba, then transported more than 2,000km by road and lifted into place by crane on site.

That method was chosen to overcome distance, workforce shortages and unpredictable weather in one of Queensland's most remote regions. It gave us tighter control over quality, safety and scheduling, and reduced the specialist labour needed on site.

The purpose-built facility gives the Gulf modern healthcare close to home. It includes a fully equipped emergency department, 18 inpatient beds, private consultation rooms, a dental surgery, pharmacy and x-ray services, and an ambulance bay. Shaded verandas were designed for the Gulf climate, with a renal dialysis unit planned to bring life-saving treatment closer to home.

Every space was shaped through close consultation with Traditional Owners, local government and health consumers, so the hospital reflects the character and culture of the community it serves.

The hospital was officially opened on 29 October 2025 by the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM.
