Partygoers at Tassie’s 105th anniversary celebrations had a preview of what soon will be our new state headquarters in the historic Minty building in Hobart. The past year has seen changes to our Hobart operations we’ve moved into the next phase of expanding our footprint. Ben Young and Daniel Cooper have led these changes since April, when team leader Mick Connolly took a well-earned break.

Hutchies was largely unknown to the Tasmanian community when Mick and Sheila arrived nine years ago to establish an office. Through commitment, determination and a genuine desire to demonstrate our long tradition of family values, Mick and his team systematically changed community perception to the point where we are now one of the island state’s major builders.

In the past decade, the Tassie team secured and delivered more than 150 projects with a combined value in excess of $300 million. These projects included everything from toilet blocks and house renovations, through to schools, shopping centres, department stores and, most recently, Hobart’s 297-room Ibis hotel. We’ll be appointing a new team leader based in Hobart very soon, and work will begin to convert the old Minty's building into our new permanent Tassie home.

While we’ve been active in the big end of town over the last 18 to 24 months – which is expected to continue – we’re also working to boost the volume of Tassie projects up to $10 million in value. The current buoyancy of the local construction sector and the potential for economic growth on the back of a vibrant tourism industry is encouraging, and we feel well-placed to expand as a major player in the years ahead.
